However, she heard that her mother had died fighting off the brigands.

Motivation: She is being blackmailed/forced/etc and this influences her actions; and she wants revenge against brigands

History: Born to a Herbalist, her father struggled to pay the bills. When money was particularly tight she was walking through alleys when she overheard a Healer hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. She got away from her former life and has fallen to alcoholism.
