History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when brigands swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. His father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his father was legitimate. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by brigands. River was horrified and prayed that his father was alright. However, he heard that his father had died fighting off the brigands.

History: Born in the south to a Ploughman, Merla learned a great deal about her father's area of expertise. She was an apprentice working in her father's forge. She has gone from town to town working and never settling down anywhere, but has fallen for a local Cook. She hasn't told them the truth, but wants to settle down with them.
