She was an adventurer many years ago and she formed a blood bond with her Elven companion (her 'brother'). She was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching her a humbling lesson in trusting others.

She did not win them back, but she came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. She was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.
