As a very small child her family refused to pay dues to a local crime lord, who ordered them killed. Her mother, a somewhat powerful mage sought to protect her and cast a teleportation spell that whisked her away. She was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching her a humbling lesson in trusting others.
