History: He was born with several neurological imbalances, which makes sleep difficult for him. It may also be what makes him so good at details. A freak accident while working with his Bookbinder mother left him crippled. He hopes to save up enough money to one day pay a cleric to cure him.

History: The child of eastern immigrants she idolized her father. Because her father participated in the massacre of their homeland, dire rats burned their ranch to the ground and forced them out. She was preparing to flee to the east, but the outbreak of war prevented her and her mother from journeying east to reunite her family. She moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.
