History: Gifted from a young age, Balam studied abroad. His father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his father was legitimate. He has set out to sabotage the competition.

Motivation: He has a rivalry with the Church that dominates his actions; and to end his boredom

History: She was born into a rich family. Her father had invested heavily in several trade routes and wanted her to inherit them. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to illithids demanding more tribute than usual.
