History: Sold as a small child to a wizard, Qualen was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. He eventually earned his freedom when his former master disappeared. At a young age both his parents were killed in an accident. His uncle (a powerful person with enemies on both sides of the law) took him in and had him trained in basic self defense. He now owns his own business.

History: Born the oldest of a large religious eastern family, he was no stranger to responsibility. His father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his father was legitimate. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

Personality: She fancies herself a trickster and likes to rely on her wits to carry the day. She cares for her older siblings and likes to be recognized by them. She is used to getting what she wants. In part because she is a meticulous planner.

History: She was always a brilliant, if unscrupulous mind. Her mother disappeared, and while she tried to raise money to find her mother, she was betrayed dozens of times. She has been saving her money to try and buy her brother's freedom.
