History: Phelaia hails from a village terrorized by illithids. Because her father participated in the massacre of their homeland, illithids burned their ranch to the ground and forced them out. She was preparing to flee to the east, but the outbreak of war prevented her and her mother from journeying east to reunite her family. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to illithids demanding more tribute than usual.

Through the years after Astaro was born, her mother became increasingly distant from her family, instead choosing to pursue power in the east. Astaro's mother didn't care for her much, and the feeling was mutual. She left for the east, certain she would find work there.
