It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

History: He served in the navy to pay for his family's outstanding loans. His mother was a soldier and died while he was still young. Everard was left his mother's suit of armor and trained in its use and care. Unlike his family, who was content to work in a sleepy main town, he wanted to work in the city. He has been working here for the past few years.

History: Ohr was born with his father's beautiful face. Before the accident, he was one of the most outspoken anti-Gnomish activists. He was mortally wounded, saved by a kind and fast-acting Gnomish doctor. He eventually got the idea of being the protector of his homeland from reading books, and has made it his duty.

History: She was born with several neurological imbalances, which makes sleep difficult for her. It may also be what makes her so good at details. She went to a religious school and was inspired by the priests there in charitable deeds. She hasn't been sleeping well lately.
