Perhaps she's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that she plain doesn't fit in. She was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

Motivation: She is not mentally stable, and does not behave rationally; and she has a rivalry with the church that dominates her actions

History: Sold as a small child to a wizard, Nyx was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. When money was particularly tight she was walking through alleys when she overheard a Banker hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by illithids. Nyx was horrified and prayed that her father was alright. However, she heard that her father had died fighting off the illithids.

History: Laucian was born in the east. At a young age he loved to build and create. His mother disappeared, and while he tried to raise money to find his mother, he was betrayed dozens of times. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by illithids. Laucian was horrified and prayed that his father was alright. However, he heard that his father had died fighting off the illithids.

Motivation: His relatives are trying to arrange a marriage; and his name or reputation has been wronged in the past by illithids, and he desires to right it
