Personality: She is almost excessively polite to everyone, even when angry. She does not believe in violence as a means to an end. She is a dedicated Engraver but believes her peers are too gung-ho.

History: Alain lived on a farm with her father, near the main road leading to a nearby town. She has chosen to use the inheritance that was left to her frivolously. She knows her nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but her.

Motivation: An old rival family wants her found.

Personality: In the realm of puns, he cannot help himself. He feels obliged to make them. He lacks restraint and is impulsive. He jumps in and acts without thinking all too often.

History: A studious child he never was much for a social life, not because he was unlikable, but because he did not seek it out. He couldn't stand his childhood mentor and eventually formed a pact with his mentor's previously failed apprentice to rebel. When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

Personality: Abrasive and pushy, she has a hard time making friends. She dislikes loud distracting noises, but is overall hospitable. Her biggest love is that of knowledge and as such will purchase any books or pay to listen to tales that travelers might have.

History: Born to a Soapmaker, her mother struggled to pay the bills. Her spouse left her for another, whom she beat to an almost bloody pulp. She did not win them back, but she came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. She was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching her a humbling lesson in trusting others.
