History: He was always a brilliant, if unscrupulous mind. When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Knight hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. He made his way to the other competitor and parlayed his knowledge into a job. He routinely visits covens of witches but complains that many are fraudulent and lack true knowledge of magic.

History: Raised by wardens he was only a novice when illithids swooped upon their monastery and killed most of the order. His father was supposedly a charlatan fortune teller, but he insists his father was legitimate. Days after completing his studies, news broke out that his hometown was attacked by illithids. Varis was horrified and prayed that his father was alright. However, he heard that his father had died fighting off the illithids.

History: He grew up in a lower middle class home, but living comfortably wasn't enough. His childhood dream was to be a Priest, but he was a colossal failure. He has achieved small success as a Dilettante.
