She did not win them back, but she came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. She became a plane-shifter, and is stopping over on this plane for a brief visit.

He found a children's book about a Halfling Sorcerer who fought for good and justice and never realised it was just a child's story. He modeled his life after the story, seeing himself destined a hero. He was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching him a humbling lesson in trusting others.

Motivation: He feels kind of lost in life; and obtaining odd cultural halfling artifacts is his passion
