She was working during a period of war, and as one of the natives she lived in fear of joining the others in being slaughtered. She saw the brutality and swore off her fighting aspirations, taking her younger sister on her back after seeing her parents die, and fled the country. She knows her nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but her.

History: Born in the south to a Detective, Vaina learned a great deal about her mother's area of expertise. Her mother took her hunting and taught her how to get in the mind of other creatures. She left for the south, certain she would find work there.

History: She was born the only child of a wealthy merchant. When she came of age, she joined a caravan that would eventually take her to the capital.
