Perhaps he's slightly insane, or otherwise so mentally alien to the rest of the world that he plain doesn't fit in. He eventually got the idea of being the protector of his homeland from reading books, and has made it his duty.

History: Her parents moved while she was still in utero so she is the first generation to be born here. Her father took her hunting and taught her how to get in the mind of other creatures. She now spends her time doing works of charity.

History: Born to a pair of adventurers, Igden grew up listening to his father's many stories. In his formative years he discovered how persuasive he was. He began using that to his advantage selling useless wares at inflated prices. He now has a substantial network of resources ranging from contacts to ships to peers.
