Personality: While he acts the brute, he is far gentler than he would appear. The war was a terrible time for him, and Gerald does not often speak of it. When he does, he does so with a strained expression and tears in his eyes.

History: Gerald was born with his mother's beautiful face. His spouse left him for another, whom he beat to an almost bloody pulp. He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He ran away from his former home and has been making his living as a Dyer for the past few years.

History: Nella lived on a farm with her mother, near the main road leading to a nearby town. A gifted student she started as a Gardener, but she got bored and became a Butcher. She has worked as a Butcher like her mother before her.

Motivation: Regain custody of her daughter; and find a way to reverse the transformation of her sister
