It turned out to be an ancient artifact of some kind. He has done his darndest to repair it but it is currently non-functional.

Description: She wears a large hat to cast shadows over her face and wears ponchos to better hide her body. She has a slight overbite and is overall scrawny. She wears a Stetson hat to hide her balding. Her eyes are blue and catlike.

Personality: She will use flattery and sarcasm to attack and weaken her opponents. Despite her formidable combat skills she remains a coward. She is kind towards other women and children and will generally offer women help without question. Others will generally need to prove themselves to her.

History: When she was but 7 years old her parents immigrated from the north. Her mother was very strict, and drilled into her lessons on being the perfect lady. Recently a tribe of goblins attacked the village and all able bodies who could hold a blade were quickly armed and sent to the walls. Portia fought at the side of some of the regions greatest heroes but was never overshadowed.

Description: This slender man stands about 5'6". He is constantly adorned with expensive silk clothing, often dyed in bright yellow and brown, and wears rings and necklaces with large, colorful gems. His long red hair reaches down to his waist. His fierce blue eyes like to dwell on things.

Personality: He likes to be helpful to his clients. He likes to prescribe proper advice to his clients. He will often invite strangers home for dinner and talk their ears off. He cares deeply for his spouse and does his best to make sure his guests look presentable.

History: His mother raised him in a mountain cabin. When he was little, his rather wealthy family often ventured across the forest to a summer home near a old dungeon. He would wander through that old dungeon and adventure through it for days. One day while adventuring a terrible storm took place and he was stranded inside. His family spent the next few days looking for him, and could only assume he was dead when it came time to leave. The family never returned to the forest due to the painful memories there. Ahvain took refuge in the old dungeon and found the beat up quarterstaff and armor he uses now. Some 3 years later his spouse died after the birth of his son. Heartbroken, Ahvain never married again. Instead he focused his life to raising his son whom he trained as his father had trained him before.

Personality: He is extraordinarily eccentric. He is lazy, self-centered, vain, and jealous.

History: He comes from a rich western family. He graduated from the Naval Academy and went to see the world at the rank of Ensign. He advanced relatively quickly due to his good work ethic, understanding of the chain of command, and natural leadership ability. He has built up a small fortune and can afford his own way.
