History: He was born to a wealthy landowner in a frontier town, living a normal and happy childhood. His spouse left him for another, whom he beat to an almost bloody pulp. He did not win them back, but he came to a realization. To get what you want from life, you must take it. He was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

Aside from being a slave or a gladiator, there isn't much legitimate work for Humans in Isabella's homeland. Isabella decided to take the middle way and become a bodyguard. She left for the west, certain she would find work there.

Motivation: Her name or reputation has been wronged in the past by goblins, and she desires to right it; and someone believes her a fraud

History: A powerful slaver made her what she is. When money was particularly tight she was walking through alleys when she overheard a Bricklayer hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. She hasn't been sleeping well lately.
