History: He was born blind and as such lacked many opportunities for work. When money was particularly tight he was walking through alleys when he overheard a Carter hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. Motivation: He has a rivalry with the Church that dominates his actions; and he feels the way he acts is they only way to get by in the world
