History: She comes from a rich northern family. Brilliant and gifted she never wanted to apply herself. She has taken up leadership of the village's small militia in response to dire rats demanding more tribute than usual.

Personality: He is happy with his job as a Brewer. He turns his eye from what people do, preferring to live and let live. He has a hair trigger and will fly into rage over the tiniest perceived slights.

History: He was born at the edge of vast island. As a young adult he joined a group advocating for an improvement in Human conditions. He tends to his Brewer job now, and dutifully fulfills any obligations he has.

Personality: Cocky and sure of herself, she believes she is the best Carter born in the past three hundred years. She is able to fit into much smaller and tighter spaces than normal.

History: Phann lived on a farm with her father, near the main road leading to a nearby town. She dropped out of school to support her sick father, and resented it. She ran away from her former home and has been making her living as a Carter for the past few years.

Motivation: Find a way to reverse the transformation of her brother.
