When money was particularly tight she was walking through alleys when she overheard a Bounty Hunter hiring some criminals to sabotage a competitor. She made her way to the other competitor and parlayed her knowledge into a job. After a long history of fighting, Numba and her spouse have recently divorced.

To get what you want from life, you must take it. He eventually got the idea of being the protector of his homeland from reading books, and has made it his duty.
