History: Born in the west to a Navigator, Arnold learned a great deal about his father's area of expertise. A gifted student he started as a Carter, but he got bored and became a Navigator. He knows his nephew is from a royal line that had remained secret for centuries, but promised not to tell anyone. So far, no-one knows but him.

History: Vapula was born to in a poor docking district. She spent her early days working in the same smith shop her mother was employed at, doing general labor. She sought a place where she would be rewarded solely on the merits of her skills. This search led her directly into Ruler work with an outfit from a few towns over.
