History: Sold as a small child to a slaver, Helen was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. She couldn't stand her childhood mentor and eventually formed a pact with her mentor's previously failed apprentice to rebel. When their plan failed the mentor lashed out against both of them and fled. She was recently attacked on the road and savagely beaten by bandits.

History: Born to a Carter, his mother struggled to pay the bills. A few years later when the south was not economically sound they moved to his current location. He left for the north, certain he would find work there.

History: She was raised in a white middle class family as the only child. Her mother was very strict, and drilled into her lessons on being the perfect lady. She was betrayed by a partner and left for dead, teaching her a humbling lesson in trusting others.

Motivation: To unite with her brother; and find a way to reverse the transformation of her brother
