She and her family wandered east to less war torn lands. Days after completing her studies, news broke out that her hometown was attacked by illithids. Marastyr was horrified and prayed that her father was alright. However, she heard that her father had died fighting off the illithids.

Motivation: Many illithids want her driven away; and her name or reputation has been wronged in the past by illithids, and she desires to right it
