History: Birel lived on a farm with her father, near the main road leading to a nearby town. Her father disappeared, and while she tried to raise money to find her father, she was betrayed dozens of times. She now spends her time doing works of charity.

History: Sold as a small child to a slaver, Shamil was an assistant, and all too frequently test subject. She eventually earned her freedom when her former master disappeared. As a young adult she joined a group advocating for an improvement in Gnomish conditions. She moves from town to town, unable to find a place to settle.
